Why Are Gold Prices Rising or Falling?

Gold prices in India are influenced by several domestic and international factors, including:

  • International gold prices
  • US dollar and Indian rupee exchange rates
  • Global interest-rate expectations
  • Inflation and economic uncertainty
  • Import costs
  • Domestic demand
  • Festival and wedding-season demand
  • Local bullion market conditions

Jewellery buyers should also remember that the final purchase price can be higher than the quoted gold rate because of GST, making charges and other applicable charges.

Things to Check Before Buying Gold Today

  • Check whether you are buying 24K, 22K or 18K gold.
  • Look for the appropriate BIS Hallmark and purity details.
  • Compare the gold rate and making charges at different jewellers.
  • Ask for a complete bill showing gold value, making charges and taxes.
  • Check the final price rather than comparing only the per-gram gold rate.
  • For investment purchases, consider your investment horizon and market conditions.

Disclaimer: Gold rates can change throughout the day and may vary between cities and jewellers. The rates mentioned above are indicative reference rates for 20 August 2026 and do not include jewellery making charges, GST, TCS or other applicable charges unless specifically stated.
