New Delhi, September 4, 2026: Indian equity markets ended Friday on a positive note, breaking a four-session losing streak. The recovery was supported by buying in insurance, metals, oil & gas and selected banking stocks. However, gains remained limited amid elevated crude prices and geopolitical concerns.

Nifty 50 Today

The Nifty 50 closed at 23,897.70, gaining 24.25 points or 0.10%. The index opened at 23,910.90 and touched an intraday high of 24,005.75 before ending just below the 23,900 mark.

Sensex Today

The BSE Sensex closed at 76,515.43, rising 362.57 points or 0.48%. During the session, the index touched an intraday high of 76,883.14.

Bank Nifty Today

Bank Nifty remained almost flat during Friday's session. The index closed at 57,369.65, down 10.95 points or 0.02% from the previous close. It recorded an intraday high of 57,677.15 and a low of 57,324.55.

HCL Technologies was the biggest Nifty 50 laggard, falling 1.94%, followed by Bharti Airtel and Maruti Suzuki.

Why Did the Market Rise?

Friday's recovery came after four consecutive losing sessions. Easing concerns over an imminent US Federal Reserve rate hike and supportive global cues helped improve sentiment. At the same time, higher crude prices and continuing geopolitical tensions remained key risks for Indian equities.

Market Outlook

The September 4 session was more of a relief rally than a decisive trend reversal. Nifty ended close to the 24,000 level, while Bank Nifty remained almost flat. Investors are likely to continue watching crude oil prices, global bond yields, US monetary-policy expectations and foreign institutional flows.
