Why Did the Stock Market Fall?

  • Renewed geopolitical tensions in West Asia
  • Selling in banking stocks
  • Weakness in auto stocks
  • Higher global bond yields
  • Concerns about inflation and interest rates

ITC Emerges as a Major Gainer

ITC was one of the strongest large-cap performers on September 1, gaining around 4%. Investor interest increased following developments involving ITC Infotech and Happiest Minds Technologies, including the proposed merger-related transaction.

What Should Investors Watch Next?

The September 1 session highlighted a divergence between individual stocks and the broader market. While Nifty and Sensex remained almost flat with a negative bias, Bank Nifty fell more than 1%. Investors may therefore continue to monitor banking, auto, IT, FMCG and energy stocks, along with crude oil prices and global bond yields.
